Scoliosis

The term scoliosis refers to a curvature of the spine.
Many cases are actually scoliotic postures caused by poor posture while sitting, asymmetrical loading of the back (e.g., carrying a school backpack on only one shoulder), lack of exercise in children and adolescents, etc. In these cases, through physiotherapy, children learn proper posture and strengthen weak or shortened muscles, achieving correction of the curvature. True scoliosis, those cases where the child needs a brace, and in severe cases may require surgical correction, are often associated with respiratory complications. In these cases, physiotherapy is an essential part of the treatment.
