Tummy Time consists of placing a baby on their stomach while they are awake and supervised. This position activates muscles that are not used when the baby is lying on their back — the recommended position for sleeping — and serves several essential functions:

During these short periods, the baby works muscles in the neck, back, shoulders, and core, which are essential for:

  • Holding the head up

  • Rolling over
